Motivation Series - Monthly Review!

                                                            Motivation Series
"A healthy dose of motivation with a twist"

1. Never drink a Big Gulp of anything unless it's water.

2. Don't beat yourself up if you slip-up, just start again.

3. A wake-up call can not only get you out of bed, but out of denial.

4. Sometimes less is more, and more than enough.

5. Wake up to a whole new way of doing things.

Motivating Tip
Deny yourself the chance to drink a big gulp, so you don't have to beat yourself up for having more than enough and need a wake-up call.

Motivating Quote
"A wake-up call is a call for change."

"A healthy dose of motivation with a twist"

1. Do your homework and read the labels and ingredients list. You can't eat the healthy package even if it's organic.

2, You can't live without food, but too much of a good thing could kill your chances for your next meal.

3. If you can't stop eating chips, stop buying them. You can't eat chips at the store.

4. Question why you eat what you eat when you eat it. Then proceed with caution.

5. Friends don't let friends exceed the feed limit.

Lifestyle change of the week!
Ask questions and read labels so you won't eat too much of the wrong thing, and turn a trusted friend into an enemy.

Motivation Series - In Denial!

                                                         Motivation Series
"A healthy dose of motivation with a twist"

Have you ever known a person that was in complete denial? Denial is a funny thing because it's hard to see unless it's someone else's life. You almost have to step outside of yourself to get a clear picture of how you really live from day to day. Denial can serve a useful purpose in some cases, it can be a coping mechanism for a person until they are ready to deal with a hard issue. But, when you live in a constant state of denial, you are in affect living a false life, a life that is made up and not real. When it's your weight you are in denial about, it can lead to more and more weight gain because you deny the fact that there is a problem. Denial can cause us to deny a problem until it is too late to fix it.

Motivating Tip
Don't let denial prevent you from seeing a weight problem. If you avoid the scale like the plague so you won't know how much weight you have gained, that is a form of denial. Denial allows us to continue to gain weight with no plans to change it. Stepping on that scale is a wake-up call because there is no denying the numbers. The next step is change, and there is no denying that change is good!

Motivating Quote
"Denial is like being blind with your eyes wide open."

Delicious Diary Entry - My Coaching Session!

                                                       Delicious Diary Entry
"A healthy dose of motivation with a twist"

My name is Ms. Delicious Diary and my job is to see how my clients are really doing when it comes to their weight loss journey. My favorite clients are Super Size-It Sally and Low-Calorie Lucy, along with their close knit group of friends. They all have their own way of dealing with their issues, and the funniest nicknames to prove it as you will see as you read their diary entries each week. I hold the key to the diary in this special little green bag. My fingers are itching to unlock the diary and see their weight loss or gain, and check their delicious food entries.

Dear Diary:  My Coaching Session!

Super Size-It Sally:

Our coaching session was all about labels today. There was a table full of foods, and we were going to get a lesson in reading the labels to see what is really in those pretty little packages. Our coach told us the most important thing to remember is - ignore the pretty packaging and read the ingredients list. The ingredients are listed in the order they appear in the product. Meaning the first thing listed is what the product contains the most of, and it goes down hill from there. She also told us to look at the serving size, because all the information on the label is per serving not per box. Wow! have we been doing it all wrong. No wonder I have been gaining weight.

Low-Calorie Lucy:

I use to read books, now I read labels. I have learned so much from our coaching sessions. Reading labels was a life changer for me and my weight. I use to think if the box said heart healthy, low calorie, natural or anything else that might make you think it's good for you, I would throw it in the shopping cart with no questions asked. But, now that I am wiser and know better I do better. I read that ingredients list like I'm reading a best selling book. Because even if it says healthy, looks healthy and has a big red healthy heart pumping away on the box, It's not even worth the paper it's printed on if the ingredients list starts with sugar.

Lifestyle change of the week!
We are what we eat, it's impossible to be anything else. That's why you can usually trace weight gain back to what we put on our plate and in our mouth. And, that plate usually starts at the grocery store. Reading labels and the ingredients list can help us fill our shopping carts with healthy food worthy of finding it's way on our plate and in our most precious asset, our body!

Motivating Quote
"Food labels tell the story, read up."

Motivation Series - Do This, Not That!

                                                           Motivation Series
"A healthy dose of motivation with a twist"

Do This:

1. When you are trying to eat healthy and exercise, it's okay if you slip up. It's all part of real life.

2, When you slip up, just make your very next choice a healthy one to get right back on track.

3. When you slip up one day out of the week, you can still do better the rest of the week.

4. When you slip up, it just means you are human and that's a good thing. It's not the end of the world.

5. When you think you can, you will. Just keep trying!

Not That:

1. Don't throw in the towel when you eat pizza instead of a salad.

2. Don't think one bad choice means it's all over. Start again.

3. Don't let one bad day turn into a bad week.

4. Don't give up when you slip up. Try, try again.

5. Don't say you can't when you know you can.

Motivating Tip
Living a healthy lifestyle is easier when you factor in all your slip ups. They are a part of life but not the end of the world. When you eat healthy and exercise most of the time, a good old fashioned slip up might be just what the doctor ordered!

Motivating Quote
"Slip ups are a chance to get up and start again."

Dear Diary:  My Book Club Chat!

Super Size-It Sally:

Page 27 reads: Linda could not stand to sit by and watch her friend kill herself with food without saying something, anything! She began writing down what she would say, this was going to be hard. They had been best friends since childhood and shared every aspect of their life, including all the ups and downs over the years. But, Linda was worried about her friends weight gain, especially in the past few years, it was out of control. She had put on a lot of weight, to the point where her health was suffering as a result. Linda knew this would be a sensitive subject, so she had to be very careful about how she approached it. She couldn't stand the thought of losing their friendship over this, but as her very best friend she just had to say something...........

Low-Calorie Lucy:

Page 28 reads: Sometimes silence is not golden, it's deadly. And, sometimes you just have to speak up, especially if it could save your friends life. Connie found herself in the same situation as Linda. She felt like her back was against the wall, not sure how to even bring up the subject of weight. Her friend could take offense very easily and never speak to her again. So what she decided to do is start with a innocent question to get the ball rolling. Connie asked her friend one simple question - where do you hope to be five years from today?...........

Lifestyle change of the week!
Questions are a good conversation starter. It is an affective way to get people thinking about their actions.. And that is the beginning of starting something new and different. One little question has the power to change a life in a big way.

Motivation Series - Big Gulp!

                                                          Motivation Series
"A healthy dose of motivation with a twist"

A big gulp of anything sounds dangerous. Yet, that phrase is marketed as something very refreshing, a real thirst quencher guaranteed to satisfy even the thirstiest person. The name alone should cause us to run the other way, but it often has the opposite effect. We think of big gulp and we think - I will never get thirsty again. But then reality hits and we realize we should not be drinking anything with the word BIG in it, not if we are trying to lose weight. In this case big is not better because it means big calories that put on big weight. So the next time you are tempted by the words Big Gulp, remember the big bad calories and that will make it very hard to swallow!

Motivating Tip
Liquid calories add solid weight to the scale, especially when those calories are in the form of a Big Gulp. Switch them for a smaller drink or a refreshing glass of H2O. The calories you save will add up big time!

Motivating Quote
"Drinking a Big Gulp will give you a big surprise on the scale"

Dear Diary:  My Coaching Session!

Super Size-It Sally:

Chip-Bag Betty walked into our coaching session with crumbs on her face from a feeding frenzy she had in her car. We all knew what she had been eating, the evidence was all around her mouth. I guess her plans to switch her potato chips for healthy popcorn wasn't working out so well. When she got on the scale to be weighed, it was obvious what she had been eating, and it wasn't popcorn. But the rest of us were struggling too, and as we each weighed in the numbers told the story. The scale doesn't lie even if we lie to ourselves.

Low-Calorie Lucy:

My weakness has always been those crunchy salty chips, I loved chips and still do. But they are the rare treat, not an everyday thing for me anymore. The problem with chips are once you start eating them, it's hard to stop with just a few, I want to eat the whole bag. I did learn a few tricks that helped me watch my portion size. I take a handful out of the bag then put the bag away. I stopped eating right out of the bag. I recently decided to stop buying the huge bags, now I just buy the small one serving size instead. You can't eat what's not there right, right! Another thing that helps me not want to eat to many chips is to google the calories and fat that are in them. That little trick will remind you of exactly what you are about to eat. Better yet, google how long it would take you to burn off those delicious calories. Now that is a real eye opener!

Lifestyle change of the week!
The difference between losing and gaining comes down to learning the tricks of the trade. Because it's all the little things we do day in and day out, it's those little tricks that add up to weight loss. Those tricks of the trade can make the difference between eating less without wanting more.
