2. If you find yourself binge eating, find a distraction they work like magic. It's hard to focus on food when you are focused on something else.

3. Don't stuff your feelings down with food, you will never get full because you were never hungry.

If you want to bump up the flavor in your food, add herbs and spices. It's a healthy way to make anything taste better without adding loads of calories.They also add plenty of health benefits too! Sprinkle a little cinnamon, pumpkin spice or nutmeg to get a boost you can taste. Shake on some turmeric, curry or cumin for a healthy kick to your immune system. Pour on the flavor with lots of fresh herbs that take eating to a whole new level. Try cilantro, basil, mint or tarragon to get those taste buds asking for more. And don't forget about the zest of lemons, limes and oranges, it turns out they are good from the inside out. Remember, when it comes to food it's all about that flavor and there is nothing more flavorful than herbs and spices!

Motivating Tip
Take your taste buds on a ride they won't soon forget. Use plenty of herbs and spices on anything you eat to make everything you eat pop with flavor. Just about any food will become a super food and any drink a super thirst quencher with a generous dash of herbs and spices!

My favorite clients are Super Size-It Sally and Low-Calorie Lucy, along with their close knit group of friends. They all have their own way of dealing with their issues, and the funniest nicknames to prove it as you will see as you read their diary entries each week. I hold the key to the diary in this special little green bag. Dear Diary:  My Coaching Session


Super Size-It Sally:

Well she is at it again, our coach is venting her frustration on all the bad food on the market. She is looking at us like we did it. We don't make the stuff we just eat it. Fast-Food Fanny would not even make eye contact with her, she didn't want to give her a reason to vent about her fast food habit. She told us we really need to clean up our eating habits if we ever hope to lose weight. She said it doesn't matter if you exercise until the cows come home if you eat junk food everyday you won't get results.

Low-Calorie Lucy:

Little- Miss Salad is a model eater, she eats healthy all the time. She should change her name to Little-Miss Perfect. I can see her now with a carrot dangling from her mouth. No fast food for this lettuce eating health nut. Our coach loves her, she wishes everyone would eat like her but that is not happening, I refuse to eat like a rabbit, I need real food like the kind they serve at the drive-thru window.

Lifestyle change of the week!
The take away here is you don't have to eat perfectly all the time to be healthy. Just try to eat healthy most of the time. Because it's what you eat most of the time that shows.

Motivation Series - Do This, Not That!

Do This:

1. Lighten up and eat light this summer. Try cold soups, fruit salads and veggie plates with lots of fresh herbs.

2. Lighten your load by eating small and often instead of big portions all at once.

3. Lighten your calories by drinking lots of water instead of sugar filled drinks with tons of calories.

4. Lighten your day by starting with a healthy breakfast to get your motor running.

5. Lighten up and get up and move instead of sitting all day.

Not That:

1. Don't get weighed down with heavy meals that take a lifetime to digest.

2. Don't eat huge portions if you want to feel light on your feet.

3. Don't waste calories on liquids save them for the yummy stuff.

4. Don't skip breakfast, you will eat more later in the day.

5. Don't sit when you can stand and move. Your body will thank you!

Motivating Tip
Why do this when you can do that is a question we can all ask ourselves? Each day we can choose what to do, what to eat and what not to eat. It's up to us to decide then proceed. When we make most of those choices healthy we find the answer to that question -  It's all for good health!

Super Size-It Sally:

Page 33 reads: Lilly regretted it the moment she swallowed the last bite of double chocolate, double fudge cake. She does it every time and the results are always the same - guilt, regret, shame and then she just gets steaming mad at herself. Not for eating the cake, but for eating the whole cake, that's the problem. Now what do I do with myself, with all the bad feelings, she mutters under her breath. Should I stuff them down with even more cake? The bad thing about it, the cake sounds really yummy, but it wasn't even that good....

Low-Calorie Lucy:

Page 34 reads: Carol put the breaks on her binge eating, it was killing her and she knew it. She also realized that food is not the enemy, it's not bad and it wasn't out to get her. Her relationship with food changed when she realized food was her friend and there to fuel her day not her taste buds....

Lifestyle change of the week!
Stuffing your feelings down with food is a recipe for disaster. It can be compared to mixing a cake recipe and leaving out an ingredient but still expecting a great cake. You can't forget to add the yeast and expect your cake to rise. You can't use food to feed your feelings, stuff them down and expect them not to rise again hungry for more!

It's always nice to receive a gift, it makes us feel appreciated and all warm and fuzzy! But, what about the gift of life, now there is a reason for the warm and fuzzy feelings. When you receive a gift how do you take care of it? Do you toss it aside and hope to get back to it later, or do you put it in a special place and admire it.The fact is life and our bodies are a gift, and like any gift worth the ribbons and bows it's wrapped in, we want to take special care of it, appreciate it and give it the attention it deserves. In order to preserve this gift and get the most out of it we should give it what it needs to function at it's best so it can be the kind of gift that just keeps on giving!

Motivating Tip
Treat your body like it's the best gift you ever received. If you do it will change the way you take care of it, because when we really appreciate something we tend to cherish it. It will also change the way you eat and move. Only the best nutrition is worthy of such a gift and exercise is just part of the package.

Super Size-It Sally:

Our coaching session finally started with the announcement we had all been waiting for. This was huge - a brand new fitness program that was fun, informative and motivating to help us lose weight and get fit. We are all in the process of getting signed up for the online video coaching guide so we can start our club. It looks like there is a race to be the first to start a "Big Girls Don't Cry" club. And we all just love the name and can't wait to have our first meeting. I'm telling all my friends and co-workers and the word is spreading fast on social media, this could be big. Let the games begin!

Low-Calorie Lucy:

We had one question after hearing the news about the club - does this mean we can stop weighing-in and counting calories? I'm still waiting for the answer to that question.
